StreetLightUSA is a Christ-Centered organization who serves girls age 13-17 who are victims of child sex trafficking and sexual trauma. The basic instinct shared by victims of child sex trafficking is "fight or flight". She runs from her emotions of fear, disappointment, shame, deceit, loss, addiction and loneliness; a teen ill-equipped to cope with the complex trauma she has experienced. The StreetLightUSA residential team helps girls find their "fight" through multi-layered crisis intervention programs.

The Academic Coordinator is an integral component of the on-campus educational opportunities offered to StreetLightUSA residents. The Academic Coordinator is tasked with guiding and assisting residents with their individualized academic paths.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Guide each resident’s entry into their educational experience at Streetlight
  • Provide residents with an orientation and introduction to school at SLUSA
  • Meet with each resident during intake period to create a Personalized Learning Plan (PLP)
  • Engage residents in early participation in enhanced learning activities
  • Enroll residents in an online education program;
  • Collect documents and prepare affidavits and other paperwork necessary to enroll residents in school
  • Document school enrollment for submission to DCS
  • Assist residents in selecting and enrolling in specific online courses according to their PLPs
  • Assist GED–seeking residents with enrollment in an appropriate GED program
  • Assist in the development, management, and delivery of enhanced learning experiences
  • Oversee development and maintenance of the learning stations
  • Interact with educational volunteers and volunteer coordinator to share specific needs and support activities
  • Enroll students in appropriate extracurricular activities as indicated in the PLP and approved by the Streetlight directors
  • Guide and monitor each resident’s progress in meeting her PLP goals and benchmarks throughout her stay
  • Participate or lead the opening and closing of each school day
  • Interact with each of the residents through the school day to check progress
  • Monitor computer activity
  • Meet as needed with residents who are struggling; identify challenges and successes; report to team
  • At journey benchmarks, meet with each resident to update/adjust/revise her PLP
  • Oversee/manage educational record-keeping for each resident
  • Facilitate transition for residents who are ready to transition from StreetLightUSA to public or private school or to the workplace
  • Revise the PLP with a transition plan
  • Guide resident through completion of courses underway
  • Assist resident in gathering documentation/records of education
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualification Requirements:

  • Background cleared of any criminal offenses disqualifying employment (i.e.: Sexual abuse of a minor, first or second-degree murder, sexual assault, sexual exploitation of a minor, felony drug offenses, robbery, dangerous crime against children, etc.)
  • Proof of Education (High School Diploma, GED, or College Degree)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related required
  • Master’s Degree in Education or related field preferred
  • 5 years of experience in non-profit and/or child welfare/service industry preferred
  • 2-5 years in designing or administering educational curriculum or creating learning plans for youth
  • Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Physical Exam clearing work with no restrictions
  • Documentation of clearance from communicable diseases (Tuberculosis- updated annually)
  • CPR/First Aid/ and CPI certification preferred
