Position Summary

In collaboration with the UNM LARC Mentoring Program (LMP) team, the Health Educator will provide training and mentoring to front desk staff, MAs, nurses, health educators, and billing staff to promote education of and access to long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs), which includes IUDs and implants. This position will work closely with the UNM LMP team and partnering clinics to address barriers to LARC provision and will provide a wide range of clinical support functions in an outpatient setting, such as training on LARC billing, coding and reimbursement, clinic flow, scheduling, benefit verification, patient education, contraceptive counseling, and confidential services. This position must be willing to travel to clinics throughout the state as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Train and mentor front desk staff on LARC benefit verification, appointment scheduling and triage.
  • Work with front desk staff and administrative staff to establish a protocol for confidential services.
  • Train clinic staff on:
  • Train MAs, nurses, and health educators on:
  • Develop a clinic protocol for tracking LARC device use, stocking, and reimbursement.
  • Travel to LMP clinical sites throughout the state as needed

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in public health
  • Experience with and understanding of LARCs and women’s reproductive health
  • Experience in youth engagement, including development of adolescent friendly clinic environments
  • Experience developing health literacy materials for adolescents, providers and clinical staff. Experience creating workflow diagrams for clinics.
  • Experience providing training and technical assistance to providers and clinic staff
  • Experience with clinic registration processes, benefit verification, patient education, contraceptive counseling and confidential services
  • Experience with medical billing and reimbursement, and ICD-10 billing codes.
