Position Summary

The University of New Mexico Department of Neurology seeks a highly motivated Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Nurse Care Center Coordinator. The successful candidate will manage the University of New Mexico Pediatric and Adult MDA Care Centers and MDA/ALS Care Center and will assist in provision of care to patients with neuromuscular diseases in a multidisciplinary, academic setting alongside other healthcare professionals. Duties will include maintaining patient databases and completion of paperwork required in the management and delivery of novel drug and biologic therapies.

The successful candidate will also be expected to:

  1. Manage the MDA clinic population by working with the MDA staff to verify patient enrollment in MDA and the presence of a qualifying MDA disease.
  2. Maintain and improve patient flow through the clinic.
  3. Participate in family outreach opportunities in partnership with MDA, including support groups, educational events/seminars and family gatherings.
  4. Educate patients and families about the institution’s financial assistance programs and/or payment plans for deductibles, coinsurance, and other patient responsibility balances.
  5. Coordinate genetic testing for patients with neuromuscular disorders.
  6. Support accurate MDA Care Center reporting as required by MDA.

Conditions of Employment
  • CPR Certified.
  • May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening.
  • UNM will provide Hepatitis vaccination, candidate may decline vaccination through declination form or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer.
  • Specialty licensure/certification may be required, as specified by the department.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree in Nursing; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.Certification/LicensureState of New Mexico Licensed Registered Nurse or licensure pending as documented by temporary licensure OR current RN licensure from a state participating in the multistate privilege to practice compact with New Mexico.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications:

- Master’s Degree in Nursing or relevant field

- Prior clinical nursing experience

- Prior experience working in a neuromuscular clinic or an MDA Care Center

- Prior experience in epidemiology or clinical trial support
